SHELTERED: The Italians who saved the escaped Indian Prisoners of War during World War II

SHELTERED:

The Italians who saved the escaped Indian Prisoners of War during World War II

Through my photo project SHELTERED, I illuminate the inspiring history of Italian families in Abruzzo who risked their lives to shelter escaped Indian Prisoners of War during World War II despite differences in race and language. Projecting the collected family photographs of Italian families and Indian soldiers on the walls and streets of these towns and homes in Abruzzo animate the site of this lost history and bring it into the present.

This history becomes increasingly poignant as wars continue to rage around the globe. In an era marked by division and hostility, the bravery of these Italians underscores the potential for individuals to transcend cultural and national boundaries. This story gives one hope in humanity.
